Hertsmere lies within southern Hertfordshire bordering the northern edge of Greater London. We have a unique combination of economic opportunities alongside a diverse townscape, villages and extensive areas of green belt land, meaning the borough provides an exciting opportunity to experience every aspect of the planning system.

Hertsmere is in the process of preparing a positive vision for growth within the borough through our new Local Plan.  We are also working to provide a Joint Strategic Plan for the area and striving to deliver a quality focused Development Management service which meets the needs of existing and future residents.  Our Development Management service is currently working on some truly exciting projects inclusive of a brand new TV and film studio development for SKY and several large scale residential and commercial projects.

Our own offices benefit from being close to both the A1 (M) and M25 whilst Elstree and Borehamwood Station lies within Zone 6 and provides a direct rail link to London St Pancras.

About the role

You will have shared responsibility for all aspects of development management processes inclusive of having your own caseload often dealing with more complex planning issues including pre-application and appeal work as required.  Dependent on your level of experience you will also be expected to assist and guide more junior members of the team as well as provide support to management staff.

About you

You will have a good knowledge of planning related legislation.  You will be a strong team player who can contribute positively to the team and be able to demonstrate initiative and good judgement in making recommendations on a wide range of planning matters.

You are capable of developing good working relationships with a range of stakeholders, including the need to respond sensitively to the needs of the community and to deliver a service around the needs of our customers.

Further information

The post is offered on a full time (36 hours per week) basis for a fixed-term period of two years.

Please note: The Council operates a hybrid working system where employees may work up to two days per week from home.
