Planning Manager - Cobham / Full time

We are in an exciting growth phase and are expanding the property department of our business. We are looking to open new sites throughout the South East and nationally across the UK. The role will work alongside the Head of Property to find and achieve planning for new sites.

We are looking for an experienced planner with knowledge of the rural landscape, to take responsibility for providing planning advice to the business on future land acquisitions and their current land portfolio. The role will also include project managing planning applications for sites, engaging and managing independent consultancies, and attending external planning and public consultations when appropriate.

Following recent private equity investment, we are in the process of executing an ambitious growth plan to open new sites in the south east and then nationally.

The role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a planner with rural experience to join a fast-paced, innovative business and to have a large impact on the growth of the business.

This role will support the Head of Property in delivering our property strategy which is fundamental to the growth of the business.

The primary objective of the successful candidate will be to prepare, submit and deliver positive planning consents for new sites in a timely fashion. The role will also involve the generation and management of new site leads.

A suitable candidate will want to move into a client-side planning role and be willing to learn and develop into the role.

We will consider full-time, part-time or flexi-hours.

Key responsibilities:

- Conducting planning appraisals for new sites
- Work with the Head of Property to produce an effective commercial strategy in order to achieve positive planning outcomes to enable BDDC to operate as efficiently as possible
- Prepare and submit planning applications including liaising with surveyors, architects and other stakeholders
- Develop strong working relationships with Local Authorities and others with a key stakeholder interest in our proposals
- Establish strong and trusting working relationships with Consultants and ensure they hit agreed deadlines
- Manage and improve planning matters relating to the existing sites and the portfolio as it grows
- Work with the operations team and construction company to secure planning condition discharges
- Work with the Head of Property to identify new site opportunities via desk based research
- Managing CRM of site leads and timely follow-up with contacts

What we are looking for:

- An experienced planner with a good understanding of rural matters
- A team player with an innovative mindset
- Drive, enthusiasm and a proactive ‘can do’ attitude that is happy to get stuck into the detail and implement strategy themselves
- Excitement at the opportunity of working in a fast paced, dynamic and sometimes challenging environment
- Superior interpersonal skills, excellent at communicating and influencing across teams

You will:

- Have a track record of delivering positive planning applications in rural locations
- Have experience of and sole responsibility for preparing, submitting and managing planning applications through to determination
- 2 or 3 years post qualified MRTPI
- Have experience working in a consultancy practice
- Ideally have experience of working within a local authority
- Have experience writing design and access statements
- Be comfortable identifying and presenting opportunities and risks to the business and the board
