The London office is based in the heart of Soho and has approximately 70 people, specialising in 
Planning, Landscape, Planning and Design, Graphic Communications, Architecture, Viability and  Environmental Planning. The office is open plan, benefitting from a friendly and sociable atmosphere.

The Opportunity
Our established and busy London Planning team has an exciting opportunity for a talented and experienced Senior Planner or Planning Associate to work alongside the Partner, Director, five Planning Associate’s (two currently on maternity leave) and a Planner on a broad range of exciting projects and a diverse client portfolio including a mix of national retailers, developers and funds across the UK.

The team, although the specialists in Retail for the Practice, has a diverse portfolio and works across a range of sectors including Retail, Residential, Mixed Use, Hotels, Hospital, Commercial, Education and Student Accommodation. Some of the exciting projects we are currently working on:
  • Mixed Use / Shopping Centre Extension & Regeneration: Hammerson Watermark WestQuay, Southampton: outline application and reserved matters for a major mixed-use extension (retail, restaurants, hotel and residential tower) to the Shopping Centre. We are also currently working on 4 other similar schemes for smaller Centres.
  • Hotels: retained consultants to Whitbread for extensions to their estate in London / Southern England plus promoting tall building schemes in City Centres for a new Japanese operator.
  • Education: advisors to Imperial College London’s Financial Strategy team on surplus assets and asset enhancement opportunities. Includes residential, student accommodation and education uses.
  • Student Accommodation: promoting student schemes for an investor / operator in Lancaster, Exeter and Southampton.
  • Residential: promoting a range of schemes for landowners, investors and developers around the country. This includes a 300unit scheme in Beeston being masterplanned with the Prince’s Foundation; a 400-unit scheme in Salisbury; a 1,100 unit scheme in Kings Lynn; and a number of 10-100 unit schemes in London and the South-east.
  • Commercial – R&D and associated development in the MIRA enterprise Zone.
This is a permanent opportunity to support the team’s growth strategy and to help the team to deliver and generate new work. We are looking for a candidate who is dynamic, ambitious, proactive and who wants to develop and grow with the team.

The successful candidate should have excellent communications skills, relevant experience and technical skills and a willingness to learn. They should either have an interest in, or experience of, networking, building client relationships and a professional contacts network and business development (and we will support this through both structured learning and development and on-the-job opportunities). To have an impact in the role you will:
  • Undertake research and site appraisals
  • Manage planning applications, appeals and inquiries
  • Undertake policy formulation
  • Co-ordinate project teams and project management
  • Have direct client contact, develop client relationships and help to generate work
  • Work as part of a team on a diverse range of projects and clients
  • Help to further raise the team’s profile
To succeed in the role, it is likely that you:
  • Are MRTPI qualified
  • Have solid planning experience, ideally with consultancy experience
  • Have experience of working on retail, residential, commercial and mixed-use developments
  • Have project management skills
  • Have an interest and/or track record in business development, managing client contacts and relationships
  • Are capable of managing a wide and complex workload
  • Have strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Are used to working with minimal supervision and have a strong ability to use own initiative
  • Are committed and have an eye for detail
  • Have a strong teamwork ethic
  • Hold a full UK driving licence.
