The Opportunity

As our Planning Development Executive, you will use your excellent communication, negotiation and organisational skills, to effectively manage a varied caseload of planning applications and pre-applications. You will mainly manage ‘minor’ and other small-scale types of planning applications independently, including discharge of details and discharge of s106 obligation applications related to major redevelopment schemes. You will also have the opportunity to manage a small planning enforcement caseload and your own written representation planning appeals.   This is an opportunity to bring your work and lived experience to the role and positively contribute to the diverse and inclusive culture of the organisation. You will be expected to work independently but will be supported by a principal planning development manager, along with other experienced colleagues.

 

Is it for you?

The ideal candidate will have experience of the town planning profession, ideally with experience of working in Development Management and using statutory processes, in assessing a range of types of planning applications and pre-applications and preparing reports for decision by senior officers and Planning Committee. Experience of managing your own planning appeals and planning enforcement cases would also be beneficial. 


You will need to have the ability and experience of developing strong and effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders from different backgrounds, ideally including statutory and non-statutory organisations and local, mayoral or national elected representatives. You’ll ideally have a proven ability of carrying out public consultation and engagement with a diverse range of people across communities. 


A good understanding of East London is important, including the social, economic, environmental and political make-up of the area. Ideally, you’ll also bring your own lived experience to our team and use that to demonstrate a commitment to valuing diversity and inclusion in delivering the town planning service to the local community and contribute positively to an inclusive working environment.
