Description

Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Planner or Senior Planner to join our Birmingham office, for candidates with at least two years’ post-graduate experience in consultancy or local government, and who are working towards or have achieved MRTPI.

You will have the opportunity to work on some of the biggest and highest profile projects and gain experience in a wide range of work.  This is a great opportunity to build your career in an inspiring and supportive environment as part of an ambitious team.

Lichfields is a sociable, supportive company, recognised as one of the ‘Best Places to Work in Property’ by Property Week magazine.  We are employee-owned through an Employee Benefit Trust, meaning that we have no financial or other obligations to external shareholders.  All our people share in the success of Lichfields through a competitive benefits package, with profits shared via bonus schemes.

We are a pro-development consultancy and work with all sectors of the development industry (public and private) to assist them in formulating and implementing development schemes. You would be involved in a variety of projects to support the planning and development consultancy work of Lichfields, and to advise clients independently on the promotion of development schemes through Development Plans and planning applications.

Responsibilities

Your workload will be broad in scope and involve shaping and assessing the case for development projects.  This will include preparing planning applications and appeals; site appraisals; planning strategies; and development plan representations. You will provide advice and guidance on planning and land use to a variety of clients including leading, developers, housebuilders, energy companies, tourism businesses and investment institutions as well as local planning authorities and other public or third sector organisations, throughout all stages of the planning process including Environmental Impact Assessments.

Lichfields will provide a great environment for you to develop your career working on a wide range of projects and supported by our learning and development programme.  If you share our passion for planning, development and the environment and a desire to succeed we can help you realise your ambitions.

Qualifications

We expect candidates to have at least a 2:1 or equivalent at first degree, to have obtained a Master’s degree in RTPI/RICS accredited subjects, and have achieved or be working towards chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI).  We offer a competitive salary and benefits package which is subject to negotiation and dependent on experience.

Candidates should also demonstrate good analytical, presentation, and writing skills, together with a clear commitment to working in the planning and property development field. The role will require working on a number of varied projects, so a proven ability to manage your own time, workload and problem solve is critical. Ideally, you will also be able to demonstrate the skills needed to market and innovate as these are important elements of this role.

The company is a sociable and supportive company. As an equal opportunities employer no applicant or employee receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of gender, age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, gender identity or marital status than any other.  We aspire to have a diverse and inclusive workplace and suitably qualified applicants from a wide range of backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
