Senior Town Planner - Leeds / Full time

We are seeking a Senior Town Planner to work on a variety of projects including energy/oil/gas applications, significant UK infrastructure projects, social and community projects, residential developments, policy advice and socio-economic work

As winners of the RTPI’s Planning Excellence awards in recent years, our clients expect us to provide the most innovative, professional and reliable advice. In the North, we are growing our capability in response to the demand for development growth from national infrastructure schemes such as HS2 to supporting partners with devolution aspirations.

You will be responsible for supporting the planning team on a diverse range of planning projects. You will often take responsibility for a specific aspect of a project (e.g. preparing a planning application, drafting a report and meeting with clients or key stakeholders). You will be responsible for leading multi-disciplinary teams and the delivery of the project in accordance with a client’s objectives and timescales.

The Team

Our planning team are at the forefront of delivering major projects which will help shape future growth across the UK. We are experienced in successfully advising on a wide range of complex and challenging projects for public and private sector clients often working as part of a wider Arup or external multi-disciplinary team. Going beyond traditional land use planning, our approach is to provide a holistic service to meet the aspirations and needs of developers, communities and planning authorities. Our planning team advises on some of the most challenging, complex and interesting planning projects in the UK and overseas.

You will work as part of a team of ten planners in Leeds and as part of a wider team of approximately 30 planners across Yorkshire and the North West.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Previous experience of leading on key project workstreams
• Experience of working with a range of client bodies, including both private sector (promoters of infrastructure, utility companies and developers) and public sector (central and/or local government)
• Experience of drafting planning reports and strategies for clients
• Depth and breadth of planning consent and policy experience across a wide range of sectors (infrastructure, housing, waste/ minerals etc)
• Ability to manage the preparation of planning applications and data analysis
• Experience of promotion, marketing and bid preparation
• Ability to lead client meetings and contribute to the development of the planning business
• Degree and/or Master’s in Town Planning
• Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI)
• Experience of financial accountability for projects and delivery within budget
• Strong presentation skills to clients and key stakeholders with the ability to promote a client’s interests using a wide range of presentation techniques
• Ability to identify issues or risks that affect the delivery of a project – identify measures to address the issue/ risk and agree with the team leader how these measures will be implemented

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Previous consultancy experience
• Experience of working with other with other groups in a multi-disciplinary environment (e.g. environment, transport, project management)
• Ability to develop working relationships at external forums
