About Us

Looking for an opportunity to make a difference in one of the most stunning areas in the UK? Do you have a passion for conservation and sustainable development?

We’re looking for a keen and confident Strategy Planner to take on a rewarding planning policy role in one of England’s most spectacular landscapes and largest World Heritage Sites – The Lake District.

The Role

You will have the opportunity to lead the preparation of the next Local Plan from vision to implementation. With an up-to-date Local Plan, adopted in 2021, the review will commence towards the end of 2024 giving you time to start thinking about the big questions the Plan might address. As a National Park we don’t have a housing delivery requirement, but we choose to set a local housing need target to support the delivery of sustainable development. Our team won national planning awards in 2019 for stakeholder engagement on our Local Plan, and we are currently part of DLUHC’s Design Code Pathfinder Programme.

You will also support the delivery of the Partnership’s Management Plan 2020-2025. Through building a network through the 22 members of the Lake District Partnership, you will support the preparation of the next joint National Park and World Heritage Site Management Plan.

You’ll have the day-to-day support of great peers in your team and the wider service, and a strong group of members and councillors who value your work, giving you confidence and stability for strategic planning.

Please read the attached Role Profile for the full person specification on this post.
