THINK SMARTER WITH OXFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL

About Us

By 2031, Oxfordshire will have benefitted from a multi-million pound investment and you could be key to seeing this vision realised. Having initially started out as a commitment to spend £millions on transport, housing, connectivity and infrastructure, that pot has grown monumentally thanks to creative developments in association with the private sector and central government.

You will work in a team that will enable delivery of this growth working with partners and developers alike. There are plenty of fascinating challenges to get stuck into such as Oxford’s Zero Emission Zone and ‘Connecting Oxford’ proposals to introduce a Workplace Parking Levy, amongst many others.  So if you have plenty of creativity, exceptional organisation skills, are able to balance competing demands and have solid sector knowledge, you’ll be right at home in our progressive department.

About the Role

Ensuring Oxfordshire is on the fast-track to success, you will provide support to some of the most imaginative transport and town planning challenges imaginable. Working on high-profile, career-defining projects, your strategic and local planning support will prove invaluable.  From securing funding for new infrastructure and working with transport strategy colleges, to representing Oxfordshire County Council in various planning forums, no two days will ever be the same.

Quite simply, you will be supporting the enhancement of this incredible county. And in order to do that, you will need to think smarter, work in partnership with stakeholders and be determined to steer the effective development and growth of Oxfordshire’s neighbourhoods and infrastructure.

You will thrive in our team if you:

Have an interest in and an understanding of current transport issues
Have good interpersonal skills
Are able to effectively convey key messages to a range of audiences
Have the ability to deal with potentially confrontational situations
Are able to negotiate and find resolutions to problems
Are able to understand planning legislation and legal documents
Have the ability to work under pressure, to tight timescales and are able to prioritise your own workload

Rewards and Benefits

It really is true that every single job role here contributes to bettering the lives of the people in our county - we want to do this for our employees too. We are proud of our strong flexible working culture, including the opportunity for flexibility on working hours and the use of technology to support agile working. We offer some of the very best learning and development opportunities to support your ongoing development.

We have a generous holiday allowance which rises as you remain in employment with us up to 32 days, as well as giving you the option to buy additional holiday. You will also have access to a Local Government Pension Scheme with employer contributions of up to 19.9% of your salary; a range of local and national retail discounts; and a host of enhanced family friendly policies including carers leave and paid time off for volunteering.
