Planning Policy Officer - You:

We're looking for an organised and self-motivated person with a degree in planning or a related discipline, to join our busy planning policy team. Recent graduates or those with limited experience are encouraged to apply, as this role offers the opportunity to advance your career as you gain experience, to develop your skills and to be supported towards achieving membership of the RTPI.

The role

As the Assistant Planning Policy Officer, you will assist in the preparation of all aspects of planning policy development, implementation and monitoring relating to housing, employment, retail, town centre regeneration, open space, community facilities and infrastructure delivery. You will work with relevant national, regional and local bodies, contribute to the preparation of statutory and non-statutory Development Plan Documents (DPDs), Master Plans and Concept Plans, Development Briefs, Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) and other planning policy guidance.

You will also be involved in the monitoring of S106 legal agreements to ensure that obligations are fulfilled and developer contributions towards affordable housing and infrastructure are paid when required. 

The role will also require you to prepare responses to consultations relating to planning policy documents prepared by other agencies which affect the city of Worcester, provide planning policy advice to development management colleagues and assist and support the administration of the council’s Tree Officer work to ensure that recommendations are followed up, new Tree Preservation Orders are created and replacement trees are planted where required.

You will also be required undertake some Development Management duties to act as the case officer for mostly householder type planning applications and provide pre/post application advice when the need arises.

From time to time, you will also be required to present and explain planning policy advice to the public, elected members and at committee meetings, public meetings, exhibitions or other functions and events.

Key Requirements

1.An undergraduate degree in planning or a related discipline (must be eligible for admission to an RTPI accredited postgraduate degree programme) and a willingness to undertake an RTPI accredited postgraduate degree. 
2.Ability to demonstrate knowledge of UK planning law and policy.
3.Previous experience within a local authority planning policy team would be an advantage but is not essential.
