About the Role
We are looking for an Assistant Planner to join our Development Management team and gain significant experience of working within a progressive authority..
These are exciting times in Neath Port Talbot. There is lots to do with innovative and ground-breaking initiatives to be part of. Over the next few years we will be dealing with a huge range of applications including new wind farms as Developments of National Significance (DNS), transformational projects such as the ‘Global Centre of Rail Excellence’ (GCRE) and the ‘Wildfox Resorts Afan Valley’, as well as a number of other large scale education, employment and tourism related developments.
As we move through post-Covid economic recovery, we want to ensure planning plays its part in facilitating new development. We deal with a wide variety of residential, commercial, leisure, energy and other exciting developments, offering you a great opportunity to gain or build upon your experience or knowledge.
This Assistant Planner position offers an exciting opportunity to gain or build upon your experience and knowledge. You would deal with all aspects of planning issues associated with general queries on the need for planning permission and have responsibility for managing a mixed case load of less complex applications for development, including householder applications and lawful development certificates, and any associated appeals, as well as the opportunity to work with others on larger development projects, controversial planning applications and appeal cases, covering all types of development issues.
About You
The post requires 4 GCSE’s (Grades A – C) in English, Welsh or Mathematics, or a planning qualification and/or relevant Development Management experience desirable.
You will also need excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills, and a strong commitment to customer care. It is also essential that you have the ability to travel throughout the County Borough.
You are highly motivated and enthusiastic in delivering high quality development quickly. You will also be able to work as part of a team, and on your own in managing a caseload or applications, together with a commitment for continual professional development.
