AN OPPORTUNITY HAS ARISEN FOR A PART TIME SENIOR PLANNING OFFICER IN THE DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT SECTION OF THE COUNCIL FOR A TEMPORARY PERIOD OF 12 MONTHS TO COVER MATERNITY LEAVE.

Newport is a city on the rise and has ambitious growth and regeneration ambitions. Alongside this, the city is also home to beautiful countryside and numerous heritage assets providing a diverse environment to work in.

The role of the postholder will be to assist in all matters relating to the Development Management service, to include collection, recording, compilation and analysis of information on applications, appeals and the validation of applications. The role also requires the postholder to be responsible for a personal caseload of more complex and controversial planning and related applications and appeals to include negotiation with applicants, site appraisals, investigations and the preparation of reports and recommendations. The postholder may occasionally have to represent the Council at appeal hearings and inquiries and present items to Committee. The postholder will also provide pre-application advice on minor and major projects, provide duty service to the public as necessary and guide or advise more junior members of staff to assist them with their duties.

An ability to drive and access sites for the purpose of undertaking site visits is desirable.
