Graduate Planner / Full time

About the role

As our Graduate Planner, you will be part of an ambitious, successful team providing our extensive range of clients with high quality, timely and outcome-based development services.

You will be directly responsible for:

The preparation, submission, and management of minor planning applications (householders, change of uses, prior approvals, certificates, NMAs and discharge of conditions) in a timely manner, producing robust documents and statements to achieve desired and deliverable outcomes.
Undertaking pre-application discussions and policy appraisals on minor planning applications.
Working with your peers to distribute knowledge and ensure contemporary planning issues and legislation are communicated and understood by our clients.
Supporting the growth of the team by making a positive contribution to business development, securing repeat work and applying a commercial lens to all work undertaken and behaviours.
Your attributes

As our Graduate Planner you will:        

  • Be concise and possess the ability to effectively communicate planning matters with officers and clients.
  • Be well organised, efficient and be able to successfully prioritise a varied workload whilst working flexibly to meet both the commercial and contractual needs of the business.
  • Have a positive attitude.
  • Be proactive and solve problems to produce well balanced outcomes.
  • Have good report writing skills to provide concise, accurate, justified and timely reports and recommendations in support of minor planning applications and pre application discussions applying current legislation and policy changes as appropriate.
  • Become involved in service improvements and our business operations to ensure resilience competitive edge, efficiency and effectiveness going forward.
  • Have a teamwork ethic to support your peers and ensure project and team targets are met, knowledge and expertise is shared, whilst assisting to secure new and repeat work in the way you deliver projects.
  • Have or be working towards Student or Licentiate Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
  • Some demonstrable recent experience of working as a graduate planner in a local authority or consultant in the public/private sector would be preferable but not essential.
