Adur District Council is the district council for the coastal strip between Brighton and Worthing in West Sussex, covering Shoreham-by-Sea, Lancing, Southwick, Sompting and Fishersgate. It shares its officers with Worthing Borough Council under the long-standing Adur and Worthing Councils arrangement, providing housing, waste collection, environmental health, leisure and planning.
Adur is squeezed between the sea and the South Downs National Park, which covers the northern part of the district and has its own planning authority. The Adur Local Plan focuses growth on a few key sites, with Shoreham Harbour regeneration a long-running joint project and development around Shoreham Airport and New Monks Farm. Planners work on flood risk along the River Adur, coastal and harbour schemes, and making the most of limited land.
