Planning in Barking and Dagenham is shaped by large-scale growth on former industrial land along the Thames and the River Roding. Barking Riverside, Barking town centre and the Thames Road and Castle Green areas are bringing forward new homes and employment space, alongside renewal of the Becontree estate and protection of industrial land. Officers work on the Local Plan, major regeneration schemes and day-to-day casework, with plenty of exposure to strategic housing and the London Plan.
