Working at Belfast City Council
Belfast City Council is the largest council in Northern Ireland and the local authority for the capital, covering the city centre and neighbourhoods across north, south, east and west Belfast. Based at City Hall, it provides services including waste, parks, leisure, building control, economic development and planning, and leads community planning for the city.
Since taking on planning powers in 2015, the council has been preparing the Belfast Local Development Plan, with its Plan Strategy setting out growth for the city. Planning work includes city centre regeneration, purpose-built student and residential schemes, the Titanic Quarter and harbour areas, and the Lagan corridor, with the Belfast Hills forming the city's western edge. Officers deal with major applications, heritage and conservation in the historic core, and neighbourhood casework across a varied city.
