Working at Blackpool Council
Blackpool Council is the unitary authority for the seaside town of Blackpool on the Fylde coast, covering the town centre and promenade, Bispham, Layton, Marton and South Shore. It runs every local council service, from schools and social care to housing, highways, waste and planning.
Planning in Blackpool centres on regeneration of a tightly bounded resort town. The council prepares its own Local Plan and deals with town centre and seafront schemes, heritage assets such as the Tower and Winter Gardens, and the renewal of inner areas with large numbers of former guest houses and shared homes. It works with neighbouring Fylde on the Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone, so officers handle visitor economy, housing quality and employment development together.
