About the employer

Working at Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council

Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council is the unitary authority for the heads of the valleys area of south-east Wales, covering Ebbw Vale, Tredegar, Abertillery and Brynmawr. Based in Ebbw Vale, it provides all local council services, from schools and social care to highways, housing, waste and planning.

Blaenau Gwent is a former coal and steel area, so planning has a strong focus on regeneration, including the redevelopment of the former steelworks site at Ebbw Vale and the area around the improved A465 Heads of the Valleys road. The council prepares its replacement Local Development Plan within the framework of Future Wales and works with neighbours across the Cardiff Capital Region. Officers deal with brownfield land, upland landscape, town centre renewal and housing growth.
