Working at Burnley Borough Council
Burnley Borough Council is the district council for Burnley, Padiham and the surrounding villages such as Worsthorne, Cliviger and Hapton in East Lancashire. It runs district services including housing, waste collection, parks, leisure and planning, with Lancashire County Council providing county services.
Burnley grew as a cotton weaving town, and planning work here involves heritage-led regeneration such as the Weavers' Triangle along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, alongside town centre renewal and employment land on the M65 corridor. The council prepares the Burnley Local Plan and deals with housing in the terraced inner areas as well as on the edges of the town, where South Pennine moorland and farmland surround the urban area. Officers see a practical mix of regeneration, conservation and development management.
