Are you an experienced planning professional ready to take the next step into a leadership role? We are seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable Development Management Team Leader to play a key role in delivering an efficient, high-quality planning service.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead, influence, and shape development management within a forward-thinking Council, while supporting a talented team and driving service improvement.

About the Role

As Development Management Team Leader, you will support the Planning Development Manager in the effective delivery of the Council’s Development Management function. You will play a central role in ensuring timely, robust decision-making and delivering excellent customer service to residents, developers, and stakeholders.

You will:

  • Lead, manage, train, and support planning staff across varying levels of experience
  • Oversee the processing and determination of planning applications
  • Sign off delegated decisions and allocate work across the team
  • Act as lead officer at Planning Committees, hearings, and inquiries
  • Represent the Council at appeals and provide expert planning input
  • Handle complaints professionally, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction
  • Support service improvements, innovation, and income generation initiatives
  • Work collaboratively to promote pre-application advice services and Planning Performance Agreements (PPAs)

 

About You

We are looking for a confident and capable planning professional with strong leadership and communication skills.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a related field
  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. RTPI)
  • Strong working knowledge of the planning application process and legislative framework
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to build relationships and manage conflict effectively
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Full UK driving Licence and access to vehicle
