Working at East Sussex County Council
East Sussex County Council is the upper-tier council for East Sussex outside Brighton and Hove, working alongside the district and borough councils of Eastbourne, Hastings, Lewes, Rother and Wealden. Based at County Hall in Lewes, it runs county-wide services including education, adult and children's social care, highways, transport, libraries and waste disposal.
The council prepares minerals and waste plans jointly with Brighton and Hove and the South Downs National Park Authority, and determines applications for waste sites, mineral workings and its own developments such as schools and road schemes. Its planners also act as highways and lead local flood authority, advising on housing and infrastructure across a county that includes the South Downs, the High Weald National Landscape, coastal towns such as Eastbourne, Hastings and Seaford, and the port of Newhaven.
