About the employer

Working at Glasgow City Council

Glasgow City Council is the local authority for Scotland's largest city, covering the city centre and Merchant City and districts from Partick and Govan to Easterhouse, Pollok and Drumchapel. Based at the City Chambers in George Square, it runs the full range of local services, including schools, housing, roads, social work, waste and economic development.

Its planning service prepares the City Development Plan under National Planning Framework 4 and handles a large, varied caseload. Regeneration of the River Clyde corridor, vacant and derelict land, transformational regeneration areas such as Sighthill, city-centre repopulation and tall buildings, and a large stock of listed buildings and conservation areas are recurring themes. Officers gain experience of major projects, urban design and heritage work in a city still reshaping its post-industrial land.
