Working at Harlow Council
Harlow Council is the district council for the Essex new town of Harlow, close to the Hertfordshire border and the M11. From the Civic Centre at the Water Gardens it runs district services including council housing, waste collection, leisure and planning, while Essex County Council provides county services.
Harlow was planned after the Second World War around neighbourhoods, green wedges and a modernist town centre, and much of that fabric is now due for renewal. Its planning team prepares the Harlow Local Development Plan and is a partner in the Harlow and Gilston Garden Town, with large new communities planned around the town's edges in East Hertfordshire and Epping Forest. Officers work on town-centre and estate regeneration, employment land including the Enterprise Zone, and the design quality of new neighbourhoods.
