Heritage Officer – Shape the Future of Charnwood’s Historic Environment

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week

Salary: £31,537 to £42,839 per year. This is a career graded post and progression through the grades is dependent on criteria as outlined in the Job Profile.

We’re looking for a passionate and skilled Heritage Officer to help us protect and enhance our historic environment while supporting high-quality development across Charnwood.

The Role

As part of our Natural and Built Environment team, you’ll provide expert advice on a wide range of planning applications—from household extensions to major developments. You’ll also help shape planning policy on heritage and design matters, working closely with internal teams, elected members, and external stakeholders.

This career-graded role offers a clear path for progression. Whether you're developing your skills or ready to take on complex heritage and design challenges, we’ll support your growth every step of the way.

You will need a full UK driving licence as you will be traveling throughout the Borough and may be using your own transport.

About You

We’re seeking a motivated and organised professional with:

  • Experience in development management and heritage/design advice
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • A proactive, solution-focused mindset
  • The ability to interpret plans and policies confidently
  • A commitment to delivering excellent customer service

Progression through the grades is linked to experience and professional membership (RTPI or IHBC), with opportunities to advance as you grow.
