Working at Ipswich Borough Council
Ipswich Borough Council is the district council for Ipswich, Suffolk's county town, covering the town centre, the Waterfront and the surrounding suburbs. It runs district services such as council housing, waste collection, leisure and planning, while Suffolk County Council provides county services such as highways and education.
Ipswich is a compact borough with tight boundaries, so planning focuses on regeneration of the town centre and Waterfront, the reuse of brownfield land and the Ipswich Garden Suburb on the northern edge of the town. The council prepares the Ipswich Local Plan and works with neighbouring districts on growth across the wider Ipswich area. Officers deal with port-related and employment uses, conservation areas and listed buildings in the historic core, and a mix of major and everyday development management casework.
