Working at Lewes District Council
Lewes District Council is the district council for an area of East Sussex between Brighton and Eastbourne, covering Lewes, Newhaven, Seaford, Peacehaven, Telscombe and villages such as Ringmer, Newick and Chailey. It runs district services such as housing, waste collection, leisure and planning, and shares its staff and many services with Eastbourne Borough Council.
A large part of the district, including Lewes itself, lies within the South Downs National Park, where the park authority handles planning, so the council's team concentrates on the coastal towns and the Low Weald villages to the north. Its Local Plan covers housing growth, regeneration of Newhaven and its port, coastal erosion and flood risk, and the character of the Weald villages, giving officers a varied mix of work.
