About the employer
Working at Mid Ulster District Council
Mid Ulster District Council is one of Northern Ireland's eleven councils, covering the towns of Dungannon, Cookstown and Magherafelt, with Coalisland, Maghera, Moy and a wide rural area between the Sperrins and the western shore of Lough Neagh. With offices in all three main towns, it provides services including waste, leisure, building control and planning.
The council took on planning powers in 2015 and is preparing its Local Development Plan, beginning with the Plan Strategy. Mid Ulster has a strong manufacturing and engineering base, so planning work includes industrial expansion as well as housing in the main towns. The rural area brings many applications for single dwellings and farm buildings, while quarrying, sand extraction from Lough Neagh and the Sperrins AONB raise minerals and landscape issues for officers to manage.
