Working at Oldham Council
Oldham Council is the metropolitan borough council for Oldham in Greater Manchester, covering Oldham town centre, Chadderton, Royton, Shaw, Failsworth, Lees and the Saddleworth villages such as Uppermill and Delph. It runs the full range of local services, from schools, social care and housing to highways, waste and planning.
Planning in Oldham works within Places for Everyone, the joint development plan shared with eight other Greater Manchester districts, alongside the borough's own Local Plan. The borough runs from dense former mill towns to Pennine moorland in Saddleworth, part of which lies in the Peak District National Park. Officers deal with town centre regeneration, reuse of old mill sites, green belt edges and conservation areas in the hill villages, giving a varied mix of urban and rural casework.
