We are a well-established and growing planning consultancy based in Shrewsbury, working across Shropshire, the West Midlands and beyond. We provide professional planning advice to developers, landowners, housing associations, and private clients, delivering high-quality residential, commercial and mixed-use schemes.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and proactive Planning Manager to join our team.

The Role
You will take ownership of planning applications from inception through to determination, managing multiple projects and acting as the key point of contact for clients, local authorities and consultants. Daily tasks include reviewing development proposals, coordinating application submissions, liaising with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities, and ensuring projects are delivered effectively and efficiently. The manager is also responsible for providing expert advice, conducting site assessments, managing timelines, and keeping abreast of planning policies and procedures.
Key responsibilities:
- Managing and coordinating planning applications (full, outline, reserved matters, discharge of conditions, change of use)
- Preparing and reviewing planning statements and supporting documentation
- Liaising with Local Planning Authorities, statutory consultees and stakeholders
- Advising clients on planning strategy and risk
- Coordinating technical consultants (e.g. transport, ecology, drainage)
- Attending site meetings and client briefings as necessary
- Monitoring project timelines and ensuring deadlines are met

About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience in development management or private planning consultancy
- Has proven expertise in planning applications, site assessments, and compliance with planning policies and building codes
- Can demonstrate proficiency in data analysis, documentation, and relevant planning and development tools or software
- Who ideally has a degree or equivalent qualification in Urban Planning, Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field
- Has strong knowledge of the planning system in England and Wales
- Relevant experience in a planning or development-related role and knowledge of local or national planning processes and regulations.
- Is confident managing multiple live applications
- Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Is organised, commercially aware and client-focused
- MRTPI (or working towards) desirable but not essential
- Full UK driving licence
