PLANNINGJOBS.COM at 15: A New Website for UK Planning Jobs

By PLANNINGJOBS.COM · Updated 28 October 2026 · 3 min read ·

PLANNINGJOBS.COM has been the home of UK planning jobs since 2011. Fifteen years on, we've relaunched it: a new website, rebuilt from the ground up, for planners looking for their next role and for the councils, consultancies and developers hiring them.

Here's what has changed, and what it means for you.

For planners

UK planning jobs in one place

The new site brings planning jobs from councils, consultancies, developers and public bodies together, from graduate roles to heads of planning. You can search by job title, area and salary, or browse by place and by role: every council area and every common planning job title has its own page, so you can see at a glance who is hiring near you or at your level. Start with all live planning jobs.

The PLANNINGJOBS.COM Weekly

We've replaced our old job alerts with something more useful: a free email every Monday morning. It brings you the week's new jobs matched to the job titles and areas you choose, the jobs employers are putting the most behind, and a couple of things worth reading. One email a week, only when there's something new, and never a sales pitch. Sign up to the Weekly; it takes a minute.

Pay, in the open

Our planning salary guide sets out typical pay at every level, from graduate to director, for consultancies, developers and councils, and how pay varies by region. Alongside it we've started an anonymous planning salary survey: tell us what you earn, and as more planners take part we'll publish the group totals, so everyone gets a clearer picture of the market.

The market, every month

Each month we publish a planning jobs market report: who is hiring planners, where, at what levels and for what pay, with charts you can explore. It's built from the jobs on PLANNINGJOBS.COM, and it's useful whether you're weighing up a move or simply want to know what your skills are worth.

Career guides

Our News & Insights section now carries practical guides for every stage of a planning career: interview questions by level, what employers look for in a planning CV, Senior vs Principal, council vs consultancy, RTPI chartership, negotiating an offer and more, with new ones each week.

For employers

A fair deal for every paid advert

Premium adverts now take turns at the top of the home page and searches: whichever has been seen least goes next, so no vacancy gets buried. We also count how often each advert is actually seen on screen, as well as views and clicks to apply, so you can see what your advert achieved. Ask us and we'll send you the figures.

Your own employer page

Every employer now has a page showing all their live roles, in their own colours, with room for a short introduction to what it's like to work there. Planners researching a move can see everything you're hiring for in one place.

Ways to stand out

Alongside Standard, Featured and Premium adverts, you can now make one job the star with Top Job, 30 days above every search, on the front page and in the Weekly, or Job of the Week, seven days on the front page and beside every job advert. There are only three of each at a time. See advertising options and prices, or simply reply to any of our emails with a job description and we'll set it up for you.

A sister site for surveyors

Many of the employers who hire planners hire surveyors too. Our sister site, SURVEYINGJOBS.COM, brings UK surveying jobs together in the same way, run by the same team.

Thank you

To every planner who has found a job through PLANNINGJOBS.COM, and every council, consultancy and developer that has advertised with us over the last fifteen years: thank you. We hope the new site serves you even better. If you spot anything we could do better, reply to any of our emails. We read everything.

Here's to the next fifteen years. Get the free Weekly to keep up with new planning jobs every Monday.
