Covering around 47 km², the borough includes well‑known districts such as Greenwich, Woolwich, Eltham, Charlton, Blackheath, Plumstead, Kidbrooke, Thamesmead and Abbey Wood. Greenwich is globally recognised for its maritime and scientific heritage. The borough is home to the Prime Meridian, the Royal Observatory, Greenwich Park, the Cutty Sark, and the Old Royal Naval College, forming the Maritime Greenwich UNESCO World Heritage Site.
