Working at Shropshire Council
Shropshire Council is the unitary authority for most of the county of Shropshire, created in 2009, covering Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Bridgnorth, Ludlow, Market Drayton, Whitchurch and Church Stretton along with a large rural area. It runs all local council services, from schools and social care to highways, waste, housing and planning.
Shropshire is one of the most rural counties in England, with the Shropshire Hills protected landscape in the south, green belt in the east and a long border with Wales. As a unitary council it prepares the Shropshire Local Plan and handles minerals and waste planning as well, and officers deal with growth in Shrewsbury and the market towns, rural housing and farm development, and historic towns such as Ludlow and Bridgnorth.
