Working at South Tyneside Council
South Tyneside Council is the metropolitan borough council for the area south of the mouth of the Tyne, covering South Shields, Jarrow, Hebburn, Boldon, Cleadon and Whitburn. Based at the Town Hall in South Shields, it provides services including schools, social care, housing, waste and planning.
South Tyneside has a coastline of beaches and cliffs, a riverside with a long shipbuilding history, and green belt between its towns and Sunderland. Planning work includes regeneration of South Shields town centre and seafront, riverside employment land for the offshore and marine industries, and new housing. The council works with Sunderland on the International Advanced Manufacturing Park near the Nissan plant, giving planners experience of a major employment project alongside the South Tyneside Local Plan and daily casework.
