West Devon Borough Council is the district council for the western side of Devon between Dartmoor and the Cornish border, covering the market towns of Tavistock and Okehampton and many rural villages. Based at Kilworthy Park in Tavistock, it shares its workforce with South Hams District Council and runs services such as housing, waste collection and planning.
A large part of the borough lies inside Dartmoor National Park, where the National Park Authority handles planning, so the council's team concentrates on the towns and countryside outside it. West Devon prepares the Plymouth and South West Devon Joint Local Plan with Plymouth and South Hams. Tavistock forms part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site, and the Tamar Valley National Landscape brings further heritage and landscape work.
