Working at Woking Borough Council
Woking Borough Council is the district council for Woking in north-west Surrey, serving the town centre and communities such as Byfleet, West Byfleet, Knaphill, Horsell, Pyrford and Sheerwater. From its Civic Offices in the town centre it runs district services including housing, waste collection, environmental health, leisure and planning.
Woking is a compact borough surrounded by Metropolitan Green Belt, with a fast rail link to London that keeps demand for homes high. Its Core Strategy and Site Allocations plan steer growth into the town centre, where tall residential and mixed-use buildings have reshaped the skyline, and into regeneration areas such as Sheerwater. Planners deal with high-density town centre schemes, green belt questions and the Thames Basin Heaths protection that applies across the borough.
