Working at Gosport Borough Council
Gosport Borough Council is the district council for the Gosport peninsula on the western side of Portsmouth Harbour, covering Gosport town, Alverstoke, Lee-on-the-Solent, Bridgemary and Rowner. Based at the Town Hall in Gosport, it runs district services including housing, waste collection, leisure and planning.
Gosport is a compact, largely built-up borough with a long naval and military history, and much of its planning work involves the reuse of former defence land and heritage sites such as Royal Clarence Yard, Haslar and its Victorian forts. The Gosport Local Plan focuses on regeneration of the town centre and waterfront, employment land and housing on brownfield sites, while flood risk, coastal defences and the Solent's protected habitats shape many decisions. Officers see heritage, coastal and regeneration casework close together.
