Working at Halton Borough Council
Halton Borough Council is the unitary authority for Widnes and Runcorn, two towns facing each other across the River Mersey. Based at the Municipal Building in Widnes, it provides all local council services, from schools and social care to housing, highways and planning, and is a member of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
Halton's planning work is shaped by its chemical and logistics industries, the Mersey Gateway Bridge and the Sci-Tech Daresbury science campus near Runcorn. Regeneration of Widnes and Runcorn town centres, former industrial land along the river and the waterfront, and new housing are key themes, with green belt on the edge of both towns. Officers work on the Halton Local Plan, employment land and contaminated sites, and a manageable but varied caseload across a compact borough.
