Working at Northumberland County Council
Northumberland County Council is the unitary authority for England's northernmost county, created in 2009 from the former county and district councils. Based at County Hall in Morpeth, it serves Blyth, Cramlington, Ashington, Morpeth, Hexham, Alnwick, Bedlington, Ponteland and Berwick-upon-Tweed, along with a large rural area, and provides all local council services.
Planning in Northumberland covers a large and varied county. The Northumberland National Park Authority handles planning in the park, so the council's teams work across the rest, including the Northumberland Coast National Landscape, Hadrian's Wall and green belt in the south east. As a unitary it is also the minerals and waste planning authority. Growth is focused on the south east towns, the reopened Northumberland Line rail corridor and Blyth's port and energy sites, under the Northumberland Local Plan.
