Working at Worthing Borough Council
Worthing Borough Council is the district council for Worthing, the West Sussex seaside town that includes Goring-by-Sea, Durrington, Broadwater, Tarring and Findon Valley. It shares its officers with Adur District Council through the long-standing Adur and Worthing Councils arrangement, running housing, waste collection, leisure, the seafront, environmental health and planning.
Worthing is tightly bounded by the sea and the South Downs National Park, so there is little open land and most new development is on brownfield sites. The Worthing Local Plan concentrates on town centre and seafront regeneration, with schemes such as Union Place and Teville Gate, along with taller residential buildings and the conversion of older commercial premises. Planners deal with design, heritage and flood risk in a densely built coastal town.
