Working at Cornwall Council
Cornwall Council is the unitary authority for Cornwall, created in 2009 and based at New County Hall in Truro. It serves towns including Truro, Falmouth, Penzance, St Austell, Newquay, Camborne, Redruth and Bodmin, and provides all local council services, from schools and social care to highways, waste and planning.
As one of the largest planning authorities in England, Cornwall handles a very wide range of work under the Cornwall Local Plan, supported by many neighbourhood plans. Much of the coast lies within the Cornwall National Landscape, and the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site brings heritage work across former mining areas. Planners deal with second homes and housing for local people, coastal tourism, renewable energy, and minerals and waste including china clay around St Austell.
