Planning in Derry City and Strabane
Derry City and Strabane District Council covers the north west of Northern Ireland, centred on the walled city of Derry~Londonderry on the River Foyle and including Strabane, Castlederg and the countryside running into the Sperrins. It has decided most planning applications since 2015, under regional policy set by the Department for Infrastructure.
Derry's complete city walls and its conservation areas make heritage central, while regeneration of the riverfront and the former Ebrington and Fort George military sites is a long-running theme. The council works closely with Donegal across the border, and the Derry and Strabane City Deal supports projects including the growth of the university's Magee campus. Housing in the countryside, the Sperrin Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the centre of Strabane add rural and small-town work to a city-focused job.
