Planning in Fermanagh and Omagh
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council covers the south west of Northern Ireland, a largely rural area along the border with the Republic. Enniskillen and Omagh are the main towns, and Irvinestown, Lisnaskea and Dromore are among the smaller ones. The council has handled planning since 2015 and prepares its own Local Development Plan.
Upper and Lower Lough Erne and their islands define Fermanagh's landscape, so tourism, marinas and lakeside development have to be balanced with nature designations. The Marble Arch Caves UNESCO Global Geopark crosses the border, and part of the Sperrin Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty lies in the north of the district. Single houses in the countryside, farm buildings, quarrying and town-centre investment in Enniskillen and Omagh are everyday topics for its planners.
