About the area

Planning in Bridgend

Bridgend County Borough lies between Cardiff and Swansea on the M4, with Bridgend town, Maesteg, Porthcawl and Pencoed as its main centres. Bridgend County Borough Council decides planning applications in line with Future Wales, Planning Policy Wales and its own Local Development Plan. Its position on the motorway and main railway line has made it a popular place for new housing and employment.

The borough ranges from the Llynfi, Garw and Ogmore valleys in the north to a coastline with dunes and nature reserves at Merthyr Mawr and Kenfig. Porthcawl's seafront and harbour are the focus of a long-running regeneration programme, while Bridgend town centre and the valley towns need renewal too. The former Ford engine plant site and other industrial land on the M4 corridor raise questions about future employment uses. Roles in Bridgend span regeneration, policy and development management, with good access to consultancies in Cardiff and Swansea.
