Planning in Isle of Anglesey

The Isle of Anglesey County Council is the planning authority for Ynys Môn, the island across the Menai Strait from the mainland. Its main towns include Holyhead, Llangefni, Menai Bridge, Amlwch, Beaumaris and Benllech. Local planning policy is set by the Joint Local Development Plan shared with Gwynedd, within the national framework of Future Wales and Planning Policy Wales.

Most of Anglesey's coastline is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and Beaumaris Castle is part of a World Heritage Site, so landscape and heritage feature in many cases. Holyhead is a major ferry port to Ireland and part of the Anglesey Freeport, and the former Wylfa nuclear power station site in the north of the island remains significant for future energy. Welsh is widely spoken, and second homes and holiday lets are a pressure in coastal villages. Planners on Anglesey work across energy and port projects as well as rural and coastal casework.
