Planning in Stirling

Stirling Council covers the city of Stirling and a large rural area reaching to the edge of the Highlands, with towns and villages including Bridge of Allan, Dunblane, Callander, Balfron, Killin and Doune. Much of the west and north lies in Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, where the National Park Authority deals with planning. Elsewhere the council decides applications under NPF4 and its Local Development Plan.

Stirling Castle and the old town give the city a strong heritage focus, and the city is a growth point on the M9, with new housing planned to its south. The university, the farmland and flood plain of the Forth valley, and villages under commuter pressure are other themes. The council works with Clackmannanshire on the Stirling and Clackmannanshire City Region Deal. Roles combine city, heritage and rural planning within easy reach of both Glasgow and Edinburgh.
